Your Guide to Scholarships at Edge Hill University
Edge Hill have a range of scholarships available to students and applicants. As well as providing valuable financial support, scholarships recognise the hard work, dedication and achievements that make you unique. Scholarships don’t need to be repaid and can be used to help with everything from tuition fees through to living costs and study materials.
Being awarded a scholarship isn’t just a boost to your finances, it gives you recognition for your achievements also looks great on your CV – making a great talking point at interviews for graduate roles.

Below you can find a list of our current scholarships, and explore more about each scholarship and who may be eligible to apply. Our Sports Scholarship is available to eligible applicants, and the rest are open to eligible current students who can apply later in the academic year.
Sports Scholarships
Sports scholarships celebrate talent, dedication and achievement in sport and are designed to enhance your sporting performance while you’re at university. There are three distinctive levels of Sports Scholarship awards with different benefits and qualification criteria which will be assessed when you apply.
Amount: Up to £1,000 per academic year
Eligibility: To be eligible to apply for a Sports Scholarship, you must have applied to study a full-time undergraduate degree (BA/BEng/BSc/LLB/MBChB), full-time integrated Masters degree (MComp/MEng/MNSW/MSci), full-time foundation degree (FdA/FdSc) or full-time PGCE at Edge Hill University and firmly accepted an offer of a place to study with us.
You can also apply when you’re enrolled on Year 1 or Year 2 of a full-time undergraduate degree (BA/BEng/BSc/LLB/MBChB), integrated Masters degree (MComp/MEng/MNSW/MSci) or Year 1 of a full-time foundation degree.
If you’re proud of something you’ve done outside of your studies, our Excellence Scholarships could reward your determination, commitment and achievement. They recognise achievements in areas such as:
Volunteering
Enterprise and entrepreneurship
Creative arts
Performing arts
Amount: Up to £2,000.
Eligibility: be eligible to apply for an Excellence Scholarship, you must be enrolled on Year 1 of a full-time foundation degree, Year 1 or Year 2 of a full-time Edge Hill University undergraduate degree (BA/BEng/BSc/LLB/MBChB) or integrated Masters degree (MComp/MEng/MNSW/MSci).
University Scholarships celebrate students who help to raise the profile of Edge Hill in a positive way through their exceptional contribution to the University. The award also recognises students who contribute to equal opportunities and diversity, rewarding notable contributions to equality in support of family origin, disability, gender, sexuality, religion, anti-poverty, anti-ageism or any form of anti-discrimination.
Amount: £2,000
Eligibility: Any student who is currently enrolled on a full-time programme at Edge Hill is eligible to be considered for this award, excluding students on courses of one-year or less in duration and those in the final year of courses which are longer than one year.
The Adam Bell Scholarship recognises and celebrates students who make a significant contribution to the community of the University and/or who demonstrate qualities such as dedication, compassion to others, and resilience.
Amount: £2,000
Eligibility: Any student who is currently enrolled on a full-time programme at Edge Hill is eligible to be considered for this award in academic year, excluding students on courses of one-year or less in duration and those in the final year of courses which are longer than one year.
The Mark Flinn Award recognises and celebrates students who are keen to develop their skills by undertaking a research project which makes extensive use of historical evidence.
Amount: £500
Eligibility: Any student who is currently enrolled on a full-time programme at Edge Hill is eligible to be considered for this award, excluding students on courses of one-year or less in duration and those in the final year of courses which are longer than one year.
The Rhiannon Evans Poetry Award recognises and celebrates students who display promise as creative writers. You should be able to demonstrate that you have the potential for further development in your writing and also be able to outline how a Rhiannon Evans Poetry Award would benefit and support your future writing career.
Amount: £500
Eligibility: Any student who is currently enrolled on a full-time programme at Edge Hill is eligible to be considered for this award, excluding students on courses of one-year or less in duration and those in the final year of courses which are longer than one year.
The Dame Janet Suzman Playwriting Prize provides the opportunity for Department of English and Creative Arts students to write an original script for stage. The play should be written for four actors and run up to 60 minutes in length.
Amount: £1,000
Eligibility: To be eligible to apply for the Dame Janet Suzman Prize you should be an Edge Hill University student studying within the Department of English and Creative Arts. You must be a Postgraduate student or in year two/year three of your undergraduate degree.

Global Vice-Chancellor’s Award
We are delighted to offer the Global Vice-Chancellor’s Awardfor international fee-paying students studying an eligible full-time undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research degree course at our Ormskirk campus.
Amount: £3,000 (applied as a tuition fee reduction for your first year of study).
Eligibility: This award is automatically applied to eligible students and will be reflected on your offer letter, no separate application is required.
At Edge Hill University, we value our global community of graduates and are pleased to offer the Alumni Loyalty Scholarship.
Amount: £1,000 (applied as a tuition fee reduction for your first year of study)
Eligibility: This scholarship be automatically awarded to international fee-paying students who have previously studied at Edge Hill University (in any capacity) and are enrolling on a full-time undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research degree courses at our Ormskirk campus.
