University life can sometimes feel stressful or overwhelming. If you’re feeling low, anxious, or struggling with your mental health, we’re here to help.
How We Can Help
The Mental Health and Wellbeing team is here to support you throughout your time at Edge Hill. We offer emotional and practical help and can guide you to other services such as counselling or external organisations.

We recommend all students register with a local GP, as they play an important role in accessing formal support and treatment for mental health issues.
Please note: The Mental Health and Wellbeing team cannot provide medical treatment or diagnoses but can work with local NHS services when needed to support you in your studies.
Getting Support
If you think you need help, book an initial assessment appointment with us. These can be face-to-face, over the phone or on Teams.
- Appointments may take place over the phone or via video (using Microsoft Teams)
- Make sure you’re in a quiet place with a stable internet connection
- Teams is available on smartphones, tablets and computers
- We’ll contact you at your scheduled time
- Recording of sessions is not allowed
Initial Assessment Appointment
This 30-minute appointment gives you the chance to talk through any issues or concerns you may have with a Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner. It’s a supportive conversation to help us understand how your mental health is currently affecting you.
Together, you’ll create a personalised action plan that outlines the next steps and the kind of support that would be most helpful for you.
Your action plan may include:
- Referrals to other Student Services teams or external organisations
- Counselling referral
- Encouragement to visit your GP for medical advice or treatment if needed
- A follow-up wellbeing appointment
- Self-help tools and techniques – such as support for managing sleep, healthy eating, motivation, self-harm or improving time and workload management
The aim is to make sure you get the right support for your individual needs.
Wellbeing appointments
Following your assessment, you may be offered a 50-minute wellbeing session.
These are designed to help you manage:
- Anxiety or Low Mood
- Sleep Issues
- Self-harm
- Motivation
A practitioner will work with you to develop practical strategies tailored to your needs.
External services
In some cases, we may recommend support from external organisations. We’ll help you explore local and national options that are right for you.
