About the Faculty of Health & Social Care

Edge Hill University is one of the largest providers of health and social care education in the North West of England, with approximately 4,000 professionals trained and educated at Edge Hill every year.

The Faculty of Health and Social Care provides responsive, high-quality education delivered in state-of-the-art facilities for those working in, or seeking to work in, health and social care.  Learning resources for health and social care students include over 23,000 books, journals and electronic resources, with access also available to facilities at several NHS study centres.

Edge Hill University has an excellent reputation for student support. Our nursing, midwifery, paramedic and operating department practitioner students are allocated a personal tutor. All our students benefit from access to a range of services, from an award-winning Careers Centre to trained counsellors and finance and welfare advisors.

Employability

Our courses are designed to prepare students for their future careers and we have an excellent track record in graduate employment: Edge Hill University is top in the North West for the third year running and in the top four of English universities for graduate employment (HESA, 2009-10). Over 95% of our students are in employment or further study six months after graduating.

Learning in Practice

The Faculty has excellent relationships with NHS Hospital and Community Trusts so we can offer work-based learning opportunities across a variety of care contexts, with placements at over 600 locations in Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire. 50% of our students are learning in the workplace at any one time, typically spending more than 2,000 hours in real-life healthcare settings during their degree.

The practice placement experience of the Edge Hill University NHS students was considered the best in the country in the 2008 National Student Survey.
