Chancellor
The Chancellor is the honorary head of the University and attends on special occasions such as degree ceremonies to confer awards. The Chancellor is supported by a Pro-Chancellor with a specific brief for ceremonial duties.
Dawn Airey
Appointed in 2023, Edge Hill’s Chancellor is sports and media trailblazer, Dawn Airey. She was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the European Diversity Awards for her work to advance women’s football and in recognition of her position at the top of the media industry.
As a strong, hard-working woman with the confidence to challenge inequality and break down gender stereotypes, Dawn embodies the Edge Hill ethos and aims to inspire the next generation of students and graduates.
Dawn is an internationally respected executive in the broadcast and media industries. She has been CEO of Channel 4, Channel 5 and Getty Images, as well as working at the highest levels with ITV, Yahoo! and Sky.

Professor Tanya Byron
Appointed in 2008, the University’s first Chancellor was Professor Tanya Byron, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, writer and broadcaster.
Tanya is a psychologist, writer, and media personality, best known for her work as a TV child therapist and contributes articles to various media outlets.
