Introduction to Higher Education

• This session will examine the benefits of progressing onto Higher Education (HE), discuss the pros and cons of moving away or living at home for university, provide advise on how to choose a university and course that’s best for you, and explore the support and additional opportunities available at university.

Introduction to HE, Edge Hill and the North West (Northern Ireland and Isle of Man)

• This presentation introduces prospective students from Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man to Higher Education and Edge Hill University in particular, choosing courses and university, pros and cons of moving away from home, additional opportunities as well as student life in the North West of England and what there is to do in local towns and cities such as Ormskirk and the surrounding area, Liverpool and Manchester.

 Why Edge Hill? (An Introduction)

• This presentation introduces prospective students to Edge Hill University, exploring the courses available, campus and facilities, accommodation, student life as well as Ormskirk and the surrounding area, plus what makes Edge Hill University unique.

Student Life in the North West

• This presentation give students the chance of finding out about what it would be like to move away for University and to North West England. It covers the best local places to see and do things in West Lancashire (where Edge Hill is based), Liverpool and Manchester, including restaurants, activities and nightlife. Plus some top tips from us!

Study Skills

• Our study skills session covers multiple topics including revision and essay writing techniques, tips to develop your independent study through good time management and the ability to prioritize tasks, and how to conduct proper research to inform your academic work

Finding Alternative Work Experience

• This session covers why work experience is important, how to find alternative work experience during Covid and additional things you can do to help you application stand out. Plus some top tips from us as staff about how to find opportunities and make the most of these.

Intro to UCAS

• This session will examine the different stages of the UCAS timeline, including how to conduct your own research into universities and courses, how to apply to university through the UCAS system, dates and deadlines, and what to expect once you have applied through UCAS.

Personal Statements

• This session will discuss what information is best to include in a personal statement and how to structure this. It will explain how to correctly use the STAR technique to help demonstrate your skills and abilities and reveal our top tips to help you write your own personal statement.

Personal Statement Checking

• A member of our team can read through, check and comment on students individual personal statements to give them advice and support on what they have included and where they can improve. 

Applying to High Demand courses

• This presentation explores the application process for high demand courses at university. Students will look at why there are high demand from applicants and also receive hints and tips to help with their application.

Interview Skills (including Virtual Interviews)

• This session looks at what university courses will ask at interview as part of their admissions process and the different types of interviews you may encounter, especially in current virtual interviews. It will explore the ways that you can prepare for an interview, give examples of what to expect from virtual interviews, techniques to elaborate on your answers during an interview, and how to reflect on your performance afterwards.  

Submitted your UCAS application – what next?

• This session examines what happens when your submit your UCAS application, advice on how to consider and answer your offers, the transition to University study as well as some finance and budgeting aspects. The session also looks at accommodation processes and what to expect in your first week, including some excellent top tips!

Student Finance

• This session will explain the different between a Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan, how to apply for such loans through Student Finance, and how to repay your loan once you graduate. It will also cover the additional financial support available e.g. scholarships.

Enhancing Employability whilst at University

• This session discusses the ways your can enhance your employability whilst at University in preparation for finding a job upon graduation. It will explore in more details opportunities available to you such as learning a language, sandwich years, work experience, study abroad and part time jobs.

Study Skills

• Our study skills session covers multiple topics including revision and essay writing techniques, tips to develop your independent study through good time management and the ability to prioritize tasks, and how to conduct proper research to inform your academic work.

We have a range of presentations on offer to introduce students to studying particular subjects at University. Most of these sessions cover entry requirements, course content and assessments, placements, facilities, student opportunities and future career paths from these subjects, using Edge Hill as an example throughout.

Student Q&A Panel

• This traditional Q&A session allows prospective students to ask a panel of our current Student Guides about the experiences and opportunities on offer at University, plus some top tips about the application process.

The Countdown to Student Life

• This session allows prospective students to ask questions to our current Student Guides, through various interactive elements, about what to expect on their journey and life as a student at University.

Campus Tour Presentation

• This session, led by some our Student Guides, gives students a picture based virtual tour of our stunning campus. Following the traditional physical route, students will get to see what our campus has to offer and the various facilities you would get to use as a student. Our Student Guides will also give you insight into some interesting facts about our various buildings and student life stories along the way!

Introduction to Higher Education

• This session is designed for parents and guardians to find out more about University and Higher Education. It explores the wide range of courses available to study at different types of HE institutions and provides guidance as to how parents and guardians can support their children in regard to their progression to university in the future. 

Student Support and Higher Education

• This session will provide parents and guardians of students with information and guidance relating to the range of student support that is available in HE institutions. The session will also provide advice and guidance as to how parents and guardians can support their students in relation to accessing these services.

• A presentation that explains to parents and guardians the role that UCAS has within the university application process and exploring UCAS deadlines.

Introduction to Student Finance

• A presentation that explores the Student Finance system. Parents and guardians are introduced to the Students Loan Company, Tuition fee loan and Maintenance loan and receive information on repayments as well as bursaries and scholarships.

We have created our on demand virtual campus visit available for teachers, tutors and advisers to request access to for your students, including pre recorded presentations, useful advice blogs and vlogs from current students as well as downloadable resources to provide information, advice and guidance on both applying/going into Higher Education and Edge Hill.

Preparing for Open Days and Higher Education Fairs

A presentation that will help students to prepare for both open days and higher education fairs and how to make the most out of these events. The session also discusses the different types of higher education fairs and open days available, including both in-person and virtual events as well as topics we’d recommend researching before attending and possible questions to ask. It also covers how to register for such events, what students should take with them and some top tips to make the most out of the day and reflect effectively afterwards.

The team are able to attend any virtual careers or HE fairs you might have planned whether that consists of a virtual stand, talks or provide information as part of a careers portal/website.
