Pre 16 activities

Our younger age group experience days focus on raising awareness and aspiration to studying in higher education.

On campus visits

(Gatsby Benchmarks 2 and 7)

The ‘Aspire to HE’ day gives pupils the chance to investigate what university is like. Pupils will be guided by undergraduates through different activities, focusing on the benefits of Higher Education, the different courses available, and receive guidance on how to choose key stage four options and their link to HE.

The dates of the 2021/22 Summer academic term’s ‘Aspire to HE’ on-campus events are as follows:

  • Wednesday 15 June
  • Thursday 7 July

Please note, there are a limited number of places per school (30 pupils) and the event has a capacity of 150 pupils per day. We would request that students participating in the events meet one or more of our widening participation criteria.

To discuss your students attending these events, please contact the Education Liaison Officer responsible for your region, or email [email protected].

StudySMART for Year 10/11

(Gatsby Benchmarks 2 and 7)

The StudySMART event day gives pupils an opportunity to contrast learning in HE with school. Pupils will be guided by current undergraduate students through different activities, exploring students’ interests and ambitions and how HE might contribute to their achievement. Students will also be encouraged to explore how to best support their current level of study through applying different learning techniques and using SMART targets.

The dates of the 2021/22 Summer academic term’s StudySMART on-campus events are as follows:

  • Thursday 16 June
  • Wednesday 6 July

Please note, there are a limited number of places per school (30 pupils) and the event has a capacity of 150 pupils per day. We would request that students participating in the events meet one or more of our widening participation criteria.

To discuss your students attending these events, please contact the Education Liaison Officer responsible for your region, or email [email protected].

HE Futures Plus programme

Six students walk past a lake at the western side of campus, with the Faculty of Education building in the background.

The HE Futures Plus programme is a sustained widening participation initiative which supports students from Year 9 through to Year 11 to find out more information about Higher Education and raise aspirations, whilst actively encouraging students to start planning to achieve their long term aims.

The programme includes the delivery of workshops both in-school and on the Edge Hill University campus, which focus upon both the development of skills in the participating students, as well as their knowledge of Higher Education.

n discussion with our Widening Participation team, participating schools will need to identify students who meet one or more of our widening participation criteria in order to join the programme.  As HE Futures Plus is a sustained, progressive programme that is designed for students to build upon their knowledge year upon year, the same students should participate in the programme throughout.

If you would like to discuss the programme in more detail or identify if your school is eligible to participate, please contact our Widening Access team via [email protected].
