BA (Hons) History

The most memorable moment of my degree was when I did a placement with the House of Commons legal team.

I was inspired to study history at university as it was my favourite subject in school and the one that I found the most interesting. I love learning about American history, and I plan to do my dissertation on the impact westward expansion had on slavery.

The reason I chose to study as Edge Hill, was because I really enjoyed the offer holder day that they had. I really liked the campus as well.

My top three skills that I have developed during my degree would be, that I have become better at organisational skills and communication skills. I have also become more confident as a person. When I graduate, I’d love to take a gap year and travel.

The most memorable moment of my degree was when I did a placement with the House of Commons legal team, for one of my modules in second year.

My favourite thing about my degree subject would be the great choice of modules that they have on offer for you to study. You could be learning about the Vikings or American foreign policy from 1939 onwards.

The best thing about Edge Hill University would be the campus, everything is close by to each other and Ormskirk itself is a great place to go out with your friends.

My favourite place on campus is the football pitches, I love to play football with my friends in my spare time. It is great to get a healthy balance between working and exercise.

If you’re thinking of studying history at university, stay curious and open to exploring unfamiliar topics — they often lead to the most interesting discoveries. Be prepared to read a lot and think critically about different sources and viewpoints. Strong writing and research skills will be key, so start developing them early.
