LLB (Hons) Law

100% apply to Edge Hill. I can wholeheartedly say that I would not be in the position I am now without the support and backing from the University. Take advantage of every opportunity - workshops, careers support, extra-curricular activities etc. because those three years go by faster than you think.

Faye joined the LLB (Hons) Law programme at Edge Hill in 2018 as a late starter after transferring from another university. Unsure of her direction following her previous course, she found that Edge Hill offered exactly what she was searching for: a close-knit academic community, a smaller cohort and the opportunity to gain real-world legal experience through practical modules.

The structure of the course and the personalised attention from tutors helped her rediscover her passion and confidence in pursuing a career in law.

Faye’s favourite part of studying Law at Edge Hill was the Law Clinic workshop in her final year. She said: “Through this module, I worked directly with real clients, interviewing them about ongoing disputes and preparing tailored letters of advice. With guidance from a supervising solicitor, I developed an authentic understanding of legal practice and how to manage sensitive situations, a valuable foundation for my future career.”

Edge Hill helped Faye to develop employability skills. Faye said “I benefitted from specialist elective modules, taught by practising barristers, giving me first-hand experience in drafting professional legal documents such as case summaries and settlement offers. Those who came to campus to teach the modules also offered work experience opportunities to students interested in the Bar.”

The Law Society contributed by hosting negotiation and mooting competitions, a simulated court hearing, giving students practical advocacy experience and helping strengthen their CVs.

Faye also accessed regular Careers appointments, receiving guidance on CV writing, practice interviews, and support with applications, which helped build her confidence to enter the legal profession.

During her degree, Faye developed the following skills:

  • Resilience: Studying through the COVID-19 pandemic required adapting to remote learning and maintaining motivation, which paid off as Faye graduated in the top 3% of her cohort.
  • Emotional intelligence: Working with Law Clinic clients, many experiencing distressing situations, helped Faye develop empathy and confidence in supporting people facing real legal issues.
  • Creativity: Faye co-developed an internal Client Interviewing Competition to help first, and second year students build confidence in simulated interviews. The initiative was a major success and helped inspire newer students to engage in practice-based learning.

Faye was a member of the Law Society as Negotiation Officer, organising and judging competitions, pairing students and delivering negotiation skills workshops to help new students develop confidence and communication skills.

This experience led to Faye creating the Client Interviewing Competition, giving students a setting to practise meeting clients, even in challenging circumstances.

For Faye, the standout aspect of Edge Hill University was the staff. She said: “I found that tutors genuinely cared about students’ development, often going above and beyond to help. I regularly keep in touch with my former University lecturers which highlights that Edge Hill was the right fit for me.”

Faye describes her time at Edge Hill as overwhelmingly positive. She said: “I enjoyed the engaging, well-delivered modules and the encouragement from tutors to push myself. A recent highlight was returning to campus for an Alumni Panel event, where I shared my experiences and offered advice to current students.”

Faye’s advice for future students is simple, she said: “100% apply to Edge Hill. I can wholeheartedly say that I would not be in the position I am now without the support and backing from the University. Take advantage of every opportunity – workshops, careers support, extra-curricular activities etc. because those three years go by faster than you think.

“If you want a degree where you are striving to achieve your best, then Edge Hill is the place for you.”

Faye has worked at Weightmans LLP for around four years, gaining experience in the firm’s Motor and Casualty departments. She works on behalf of both private and insurer clients, handling a broad range of litigation tasks including:

In addition to her role, Faye is actively involved in the legal community. She is Chair of the Merseyside Junior Lawyers Division and contributes to the firm’s CSR committee. She helps deliver networking events, court marshalling opportunities, and mock CV workshops for law students and junior professionals. Faye revisited Edge Hill in November 2025 when she was a guest speaker at the annual Law Alumni Panel event. Faye attended alongside four other alumni from the School of Law and Criminal Justice, showcasing the diverse and successful career paths pursued by Edge Hill alumni.

Looking ahead, Faye plans to begin studying for her Solicitors Qualifying Examinations.
