Biography

Dr Holly Saron is based in the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine and is a member of the Children, Young People and Families research theme. Holly has a Geography and Population Health background. 

Research Interests

Holly’s work is primarily qualitative, child-centred and arts-based. Holly’s research interests focus on children, young people and families’ experiences relating to their health or healthcare. She is also interested in children, young people and families’communication and interactions with each other and with clinicians during clinical procedures. Other interests include child health technology including tele-consultations and early warning systems using mobile applications and digital platforms (the DETECT study).

Holly has worked with clinicians, parents and children to co-develop animations and other health information resources about having remote consultations, and receiving antibiotics at home.

Holly is currently part of the CASTLE Sleep-E team, and is a research assistant on a North-west Cancer Research (NWCR) Project focussed on support interventions for children and young people diagnosed with cancer and their families during and after treatment, funded by The Joshua Tree charity. 

Holly is also a member of the iSUPPORT team working with an international group of health professionals, academics, young people, parents, child rights specialists, psychologists and youth workers to develop rights-based standards to support paediatric patients during clinical procedures by reducing harm and establishing trust.

Teaching

Holly has previously been a Lecturer in Nurse Education, and Deputy Year of Study Lead for first year undergraduate students in the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine at Edge Hill University. Holly was aligned to the BSc Nursing Programme (NUR1000) and was involved in teaching theory, and leading the Written Assessment across the first year of the BSc/MSci Nursing programmes. Holly has a keen interest in developing academic literacies.

Holly enjoys PhD and Masters supervision with students and has supervised an MRes focussed on understanding the role of health play  specialists to completion. Currently, Holly is supervising a PhD student who is working with children and young people to co-develop a communication module for undergraduate children’s nurses.
