Biography

Dr Anita Flynn is the Associate Head of Women’s Health within the Department of Women’s and Child Health, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine, Edge Hill University. Anita is an experienced academic and a Registered nurse in both Children’s and Adult nursing. 

Anita gained her Professional Doctorate (Health and Social Care) from the University of Salford in 2015. Her doctoral research focused on children’s nurse mentor experiences of undertaking assessment at sign off stage. Anita’s research activities and interests include: Assessment of children’s nursing students, Parent Champions, Advance Care Planning of Young People, Maternal impact and outcomes of Building Attachmentand Bonds Service (BABs), Paediatric Catheterisation.  

Prior to joining the Faculty, Anita had gained extensive experience of both adult and children’s nursing across the UK and abroad. Following completion of an MSc in Clinical Nursing, at the University of Liverpool in 1997, she was employed as a Nurse Clinician, introducing an advanced nurse practitioner role into existing acute paediatric services. In this role she gained specific experience in advanced/higher level practice within children’s nursing, undertaking high level clinical assessment and management of children and young people.
