Helping you feel connected, confident and supported.

The Edge Hill Student Buddy scheme connects first-year students with experienced peers who can help you navigate university life, build confidence, make connections and find the support you need throughout your first year at university.

Benefits of a Student Buddy

Starting university can feel exciting, challenging and sometimes overwhelming, and that’s a completely normal part of your student journey. The good news is you’re not the first to have taken this journey, and your peers have lots of experience and advice they can share with you.

A Student Buddy is an experienced student who understands what it’s like to be new and can help you settle into life at Edge Hill.

A Student Buddy can help you:

  • Feel more confident as you navigate university life
  • Develop a stronger sense of belonging at Edge Hill
  • Access opportunities, activities and services across campus
  • Share common university challenges and discover how they overcame them
  • Meet new people and build connections
  • Understand where to go for help and support
  • Build positive study habits and engage with your course
  • Feel supported on your journey as you settle in, return after breaks and prepare for assessments

What to expect

Student Buddies provide friendly peer support through personalised check-ins, conversations, group activities and study support opportunities. They’re here to listen, share experiences and signpost you to the right services when needed.

You don’t need to figure everything out alone. Everyone needs support sometimes, and getting connected early can make a real difference to your university experience.

So, whether you want to expand your social circle, find out more about support or simply connect with someone who can give you a little extra encouragement, you’ll be able to Book a Buddy from Monday 2 November to help you feel more connected and supported throughout your student journey.

You won’t need to register for a Student Buddy. All first-year students will be invited to meet with a Student Buddy from Monday 2 November. If you would like to send a message to a Buddy, please contact the team at [email protected].

Becoming a Student Buddy

Please note that all Student Buddy positions are currently filled and we are not currently recruiting. When recruitment reopens, you will recieve an invitation to become a Student Buddy.

The Study Club

Finding time to focus on your studies can be challenging when you’re balancing lectures, independent learning, part-time work and everything else that comes with university life. That’s why your Student Buddies are also launching The Study Club, a weekly study session open to all students.

  • Day: Every Tuesday (from 10 November to 22 December)
  • Time: 3.30 – 5pm
  • Location: Oak, Catalyst or join online

Led by trained Student Buddies, The Study Club provides a dedicated time and space, to work on assignments, catch up on reading, organise your notes or prepare for upcoming assessments in a supportive and welcoming environment. Whether you want to build a regular study routine, stay motivated or simply work alongside other students, The Study Club can help you stay on track and make steady progress throughout the semester.
