Linda Brankin left school over 20 years ago, and after raising her own children decided to join the Fasttrack programme at Edge Hill to get back into education and pursue a career.

“Hand on heart, Edge Hill is an amazing university which will always have a place in my heart.”

Linda Brankin left school over 20 years ago, and after raising her own children decided to join the Fastrack programme at Edge Hill to get back into education and pursue a career.

The Fasttrack programme is aimed at mature learners who have been out of study for at least two years, and do not hold the required entry qualifications.

She explained: “It was the most crazy, wonderful and satisfying experience. The course was fantastic, and I learned so many new skills and areas for development. I think the Fasttrack programme was essential for me to prepare for my degree.”

Linda successfully completed the Fasttrack programme, which is designed to equip learners with the confidence and essential academic skills needed to study at degree level. Her success in the programme meant that she felt ready to start her degree in Educational Psychology in 2021.

Linda explained: “I left my full-time job in September and began life as a student which was a big change for me. My personal tutor was amazing though, helping me into a frame of mind to push past barriers with confidence. And to enjoy my new chosen path.”

Fast forward to today and Linda is just a few months away from finishing her degree, and commented: “The journey has been amazing, and I would do it all again. Everything from day one has been clearly explained, presented with fantastic communication from the Psychology department and the university.”

Linda is now thriving in her educational journey. And has recently been accepted onto a PGCE course. Linda didn’t hesitate to accept and continue her studies at Edge Hill, the only English university graded Ofsted ‘outstanding’ in all three initial teacher training age phases.

She explained: “There was no hesitation as to where I wanted to study as I feel comfortable, supported and motivated here.”

Edge Hill run the Fastrack programme to make sure that learners who have had a break from education can get the skills and confidence they need to start studying.

Linda’s story is a testament to the importance of the Fasttrack programme for those who have been out of study and would benefit from extra support to get back into education.

“I feel very fortunate to be in this position and hand on heart, Edge Hill is an amazing university which will always have a place in my heart. I thank everyone there who has been on the journey with me, from the lecturers to the support staff and the lovely ladies in Costa. They all played an important part and made my university days so far the best ones yet.

“I cannot praise Edge Hill University enough for making this journey nothing but exceptional for me. Here’s to September and another year!”
