Edge Hill University shortlisted for three Educate North Awards

February 21, 2024

Edge Hill University has received three nominations in the Educate North Awards – one of the most prestigious awards in education.

The awards champion achievements, developments and success in the sector and Edge Hill has reached the final stages in the following categories:

  • Community Engagement Award – University Sector
  • Student Experience Award – University Sector
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing Award

Pro Vice-Chancellor Liam Owens said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted in three categories.

“The nominations represent very different areas of what the University does, from outstanding partnership work with Everton in the Community, to a strong focus on supporting students and vital work surrounding dementia in the community.”

For the Community Engagement Award, Edge Hill has been shortlisted for partnership work with Everton in the Community, the official charity of Everton Football Club.

Working from The People’s Place, a community hub just a goal-kick away from Goodison Park, the partnership has delivered much needed mental health and wellbeing support in a deprived community.

In the Student Experience Award category, Edge Hill has been further recognised for the quality of its student support following a rating of gold for providing an outstanding experience in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Award shortlisting is for the Department of Psychology’s Ageing Better with an Active Mind project – a series of workshops in Lancashire and Merseyside to improve mental health and reduce the risk of dementia.

The awards, now in their 10th year, will be presented at a ceremony at The Hilton Hotel, Manchester on Thursday, 18 April.

Edge Hill previously won the Educate North University of the Year Award in 2021/22. Last year, the University was the most decorated institution at the awards, claiming three awards and a high commendation.
