Things you should think about when choosing a university – from year 12 college student Eva

Choosing the right university is all about weighing up the benefits and drawbacks.

Whilst doing a work placement with us, we caught up with year 12 Runshaw College student Eva, to talk about what she thinks Edge Hill has to offer. From societies to mental wellbeing support, and what to consider when selecting the right university for you.

Home away from home

There are many amazing aspects to Edge Hill University. Loads of support available, lots of smiley faces, a warm welcome, amazing facilities and many opportunities for fun experiences.

Personally, I will be looking for a university that makes me feel at home. Everyone knows that university can be a daunting experience for newcomers, but Edge Hill seems to make people feel at ease. The staff at Edge Hill are extremely friendly and welcoming and make you feel like you are a part of the community.

Another lovely aspect of Edge Hill University is that you can be your true authentic self, people seem to exchange warm smiles through corridors and on campus, making you feel like you belong.

Support network

The staff at Edge Hill can support you with absolutely anything you can think of. This includes financial advice, disability support, mental health and wellbeing services and academic help. I think these aspects of university are essential for a positive student experience.

For me, I want to start planning for my career as soon as I can, so I’m prepared for the future and can establish what I want to do. Edge Hill can provide you with exceptional support as there is a dedicated Careers Team available to all students right from the beginning of their course. In the impressive Catalyst building, there is a very cute careers corner which is just like a sitting room where you can drop by for information and advice – and the staff are so friendly!

Award-winning facilities

Another important aspect of university to consider, is the range and quality of facilities. At Edge Hill there are amazing sport facilities such as the gym, a massive swimming pool, and spacious courts. And if you feel like you need to clear your head and get some fresh air or take your mind off stress for a bit, the scenic ‘trim trail’ complete with outdoor fitness equipment is there for you.

For all the foodies out there, there are plenty of eateries to satisfy everyone situated around Edge Hill University’s picturesque campus. From the coffee bar in The Hub to Subway to the pizza truck, there are many food hubs for everyone.

Clubs and societies

For me, as a Year 12 college student, social activities such as societies and clubs are vital to consider when choosing a university. This is because they are a great way to forge new friendships and learn from other people. Here at Edge Hill, there are plenty of societies to suit all tastes and interests.

Students’ Union

A Students’ Union is a must for university life. From clubs and societies and independent advice to social activities, Edge Hill SU offers a great way to make friends, try new things and develop useful life skills.”
