In this online reading group, Professor Peter Moss will share his recent work on early childhood and democracy.

Peter is an Emeritus Professor at University College London in the Institute of Education in the Social Research Institute. His fields of research include education policy, sociology and philosophy.

4 – 4.30pm: Professor Peter Moss will share his recent scholarship with emphasis on the relationship between early childhood education, democracy and the right to education. Our focus will be chapter 1 and 14 with discussion around democracy in ECEC as a stated fundamental value. The reading can be found at the following link:

4.30 – 5pm: We will have time for questions and a group discussion surrounding responses to the following questions:

  • What is our image of the child, the school/early childhood centre, the worker in the centre?
  • What is the purpose of early childhood education and care, what is it for?
  • What are the fundamental values of ECEC, and what ethics should it work with?
