When You Light A Candle, You Also Cast A Shadow is a national dance award nominated dance and live music performance piece performed by Company Carpi. 

Created by choreographer Bettina Carpi and composer Gary Lloyd, and with a specially commissioned poetry cycle by Costa Award winning writer and poet Mary Talbot, the piece investigates creation & destruction, affect & effect, order & chaos, and in the light of the current climate crisis is a love letter to nature and its resilience and a call to awareness of the dangerous state of our climate, our habitat, our planet. 

When You Light A Candle, You Also Cast A Shadow is performed by a trio of dancers – Paige Lyon, Lauren Tucker, & ex-EHU dance student Jess Bennett – with music performed live by the Candle String Quintet featuring musicians drawn from the very best UK orchestras in the Northwest including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra & The Hallé Orchestra.
