iCARE Research Seminar to be given by Dr Bex Walker Friday 5 September.
The Walk-Along Project: Exploring lived experiences of children with cerebral palsy using walk-along interviews. Challenges, Innovations, and Insights.
Dr Bex Walker is a Research Fellow in Biomechanics at Liverpool John Moores University, having recently completed my PhD, titled ‘Determining the causes and mechanisms of falls in children with cerebral palsy’. This project used both quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate fall risk in children with cerebral palsy, in collaboration with Edge Hill University and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. This presentation will talk through the journey of ‘The Walk-Along Project’, from initial concept and conducting PPIE, to the rewarding outcomes and insights that emerged. We will discuss the practical, ethical, and technical challenges – as well as the rewards – of conducting tailored walk-along interviews with ambulatory children with cerebral palsy, aimed at better understanding their daily experiences of falls.
