Business School exterior on a sunny day

We would like to invite you to our initial meeting of the Community Ownership Research group. The event will take place on Wednesday 26 April in the Business School, Edge Hill University, Ormskirk. Our aim is to develop a community of academics and practitioners who want to work together to better understand and realise the benefits of the Community Ownership sector.

Community Owned Businesses bond individuals into a collective in the pursuit of a shared mission to develop and manage local assets to meet the community needs. The Plunkett Foundation’s 2026 Strategy aims for a 20% growth in Community Owned Businesses within five years. Accordingly, understanding the social and economic benefits and opportunities resulting from Community Owned Businesses and the strategic and operational challenges that arise in an area that needs greater investigation.

About the event

Lunch and refreshments will be provided, then the interactive meeting will commence. The speakers will deliver short talks about on their own research areas and practitioners will advise them on the challenges and opportunities they face at a strategic and operational level. We will jointly explore the key themes that are facing Community Owned Businesses. The outcome of the day will be the cocreation of a research community and a road map of planned research that will add direct value to the community ownership sector. We aim to provide you with an opportunity to access to:
