Why should I let you know?
Edge Hill aims to be a caring community where everyone feels safe, supported and protected from harm. If a student experiences a crime or is affected by concerning behaviour, we want to ensure they can access appropriate support and that the University is aware of any issues that may affect the safety and wellbeing of our community.
We do not believe that students should be responsible for keeping other people safe. However, we encourage members of our community to let us know if they have concerns about their own safety, someone else’s wellbeing, or behaviour that may be inappropriate or harmful.
Often, people assume that someone else will raise a concern, when in reality this may not happen. As a result, individuals may not receive the support they need, and situations that could have been addressed early may escalate and become more serious.
In cases of sexual misconduct, early support and intervention can be particularly important. If a person wishes to report an incident to the police, there may be time limits on preserving certain types of evidence. Knowing what support is available and who to contact can help individuals make informed choices about their next steps. Further information can be found in our online guide:
If you are concerned about someone, where possible, we encourage you to speak with them and signpost them to the Edge Hill Mental Health & Wellbeing Team. You can also use this form to access support for yourself.
We recognise that it is not always possible or appropriate to speak directly to the person you are concerned about. For this reason, this referral form can also be used to share concerns when you do not feel comfortable discussing the situation with them directly.
If you would like advice on how to speak to someone who may have experienced sexual misconduct, or how to respond to behaviour that concerns you, please visit theĀ SRASAC webpage.
