Specific entry requirements may differ for each programme, but the information below provides general requirements and some guidance. More information on specific courses can be found on our study pages. Each application is assessed on its own merit.

English language requirements for individual courses may vary but the minimum requirements can be found online.

International Foundation Programme

Students whose qualifications do not meet our general entrance or course requirements may need to take an International Foundation Programme to qualify for entry to an undergraduate degree programme.

Koto Gakko Sotsugyo Shomei Sho (Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate): Minimum five subjects at grade 3 or above.

Undergraduate programmes

Koto Gakko Sotsugyo Shomei Sho (Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate): Minimum five subjects at grade 3 or above plus a recognised International Foundation Programme.

First year of Bachelor’s (BA) degree (Gakushi) may grant entry to first year of undergraduate in the UK with grade Good/70-79%/Grade B/良(Ryō)or above.

The university may also consider students with good passes in their vocational degree (Senmonshi) or an associate degree (Jun-Gakushi). Grade: Good/70-79%/Grade B/良(Ryō)

International Baccalaureate (IB)

We are happy to accept students who have completed the IB qualification. We will use UCAS Tariff scores to assess a student’s suitability. Subject specific requirements at Higher Level (HL) Grade 5 may apply. For clarity of entry requirements for the course you’re interested in, please contact the International Office.

Postgraduate programmes

Bachelor’s degree (Gakushi) from a recognised Japanese university with a score of:

  • 65% for most courses requiring a 2:2
  • 70% for most courses requiring a 2:1
