This is the final module for the MSc Clinical Professional Development and the MSc Clinical Professional Development (Clinical Education). It has been specifically designed to provide you with the opportunity to undertake an in-depth and extended piece of investigative enquiry from conceptualisation through to completion in your chosen area of interest.

Who is this module for?

Postgraduate students completing the MSc Clinical Professional Development or MSc Clinical Professional Development (Clinical Education).

What are the key aims of the module?

This dissertation builds upon the your previous learning experience undertaken within the MSc programme. It aims to develop a detailed and sustained line of critical analysis that is tailored to your personal research interests and that is/are relevant to your job role. Developing both written and oral dissemination skills, the module will foster guided independent inquiry that will culminate in a critical work consistent with level 7 attributes.

How will I study?

The teaching and learning and assessment associated with this module will be approached via a combination of workshop support sessions, self-directed learning and guidance and support offered to you through the supervisory process. You will be allocated a supervisor who will provide support during the time you are researching and writing up your dissertation.

What will I study?

A series of key seminars will be employed as a forum in which students and supervisors may critically review key issues in relation to their project’s development and management. Examples of topics to be addressed will include ‘statistical analysis for dissertations’, ‘governance/ethical issues’ and ‘writing for publication’.

How will I be assessed?

This module requires one coursework submission and one oral presentation, both elements of assessment must be passed at 40%.
You will be required to prepare a paper for potential publication arising directly out of the research study undertaken (4500-5000 words) and an oral presentation of the research project to peers and academic supervisors.

Module availability varies from year to year and will be subject to minimum student numbers being achieved. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Due to the popularity of some modules, it may be that the module is fully booked when your application is received. We will include your details on a waiting list and allocate you a place on the next available intake.

We encourage you to apply as early as possible to give you the best chance to obtain a place on your preferred cohort, module applications will close as soon as the module is full. Applications received within two weeks of the start date may have to be considered for a later cohort.
