Research facilities
Our brain-imaging research is supported by:
- electroencephalography (EEG) system
- brain stimulation (tDCS and TMS) devices
- a functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) system
- four eye-tracking machines
- three systems for recording physiological responses (BioPac)
- a pain simulator (DS8R Digitimer Constant Current Stimulator)
- a Human Tissue Lab
Other equipment includes:
- an observation suite
- a virtual reality suite (Oculus Rift and HTC Vive Pro)
- a 3D-printing lab (Ultimaker)
- the ‘bar’ laboratory, which allows for the simulation of real-life drinking environments
Our research facilities aren’t just for postgraduate study. You’ll be encouraged to use our research facilities throughout your course, and particularly in your final-year dissertation projects.

Supporting you
When you become a student here, you’ll be allocated a Personal Tutor. They will be your main source of support in your academic department. They’ll be with you as you progress throughout your degree, supporting you in three areas: professional/career-related support, pastoral support and signposting you to information you need. But they aren’t just there when you need support. They are also there to celebrate your successes, help with planning your progress and much more.
