Discover History

Congratulations on your offer

We’re pleased to offer you a place on one of our History courses. As part of our thriving history community, you’ll gain the knowledge, experience and skills to inspire the people of today. If you’re excited about a future in history and want to find out how it applies to big issues facing society, we’re sure you’re going to fit right in at Edge Hill.

Delve into the past and explore what it means for society today. At Edge Hill, you’ll develop analytical skills, research specialist subjects and apply your knowledge in practical projects and work placements.

You’ll soon realise why 100% of our history students are employed or in further study 15 months after graduation (Graduate Outcomes data release 2024 from 2021/22 graduates).

Facilities

We’re based in the Department of History, Geosciences and Social Sciences building which provides inclusive teaching, learning and research facilities for all our students. Our team of friendly staff are based in the department building and are on hand to offer one-to-one advice.

Our building features a large lecture theatre, small group teaching rooms, IT suites and a number of specialist laboratories for our geoscientists.

You’ll soon understand why we’re 1st in the North West for learning resources (National Student Survey 2025 – History).

Prepare for your studies

Before starting your studies, you could:

  • Explore history by listening to episodes of In Our Time on BBC Sounds
  • Visit a museum or heritage site
  • Learn about the would-be assassins of Queen Victoria in the BBC Sounds podcast Killing Victoria… featuring a contribution from one of Edge Hill’s very own academics.

Supporting you

When you become a student here, you’ll be allocated a Personal Tutor. They will be your main source of support in your academic department. They’ll be with you as you progress throughout your degree, supporting you in three areas: professional/career-related support, pastoral support and signposting you to information you need. But they aren’t just there when you need support. They are also there to celebrate your successes, help with planning your progress and much more.

Many of the topics in each module go beyond large-scale events to include social and cultural history, or what was happening amongst the ordinary people at the time.
