Your Geography and Geology Offer Holding Day

• Saturday 4 February, 11.30am – 4.00pm
• Wednesday 22 February, 1.30pm – 6.00pm

The human geography taster session is a great chance to get involved and find out more about your subject area. During your session you’ll examine and discuss several key themes which characterise and define contemporary human geographies. This could include political geographies, virtual geographies, literary and imaginative geographies, geography of migration, and hazard risk and resilience.

Your taster session will take place in one of our laboratories where you’ll be analysing river water samples. First you’ll complete a number of water quality tests on samples from a local river. From the data you collect, and using other evidence about the land surrounding the river, your final task will be to try and determine the locations along the river from where the samples were collected.

The Geology taster session will take place in one of our laboratories with a focus on rock-forming minerals and rock specimens. The activity will involve hand specimens of rocks and minerals, where you’ll get to view rock thin sections under the microscope, and see how we can use this technique to determine the mineralogy of geological samples.
