Your subject session:
The content of a screen-based narrative is driven by good storylines, which are only possible if good, strong characters are developed to deliver the dramatic content. When this process succeeds, it helps engage audiences and allows programmes to build notoriety and a successful reputation. The goal of any drama-focused programme maker is to be involved in a successful project that generates income and leads to further commissions and career development. Your session will focus on an integral part of this process: the creation and development of characters suitable for drama-based production.
During your session, you’ll engage in content that is designed for first-year students, and you’ll be taught by one of our experienced academics. You’ll be introduced to industry-recognised concepts used by screenwriters and production teams in the realisation of major television projects. Using these concepts, you’ll work in a small group with your fellow offer holders on a scenario to develop characters and an outline for a broadcast project for a specific audience. On completion of this activity, you’ll get to share your ideas with the other groups. The session is intended to give you an idea of one of the creative processes that you’ll experience during the first year of your degree. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet staff who’ll work on the degree programme and, perhaps most importantly, the chance to meet and work with other applicants who have received an offer to study the same course as you.
