Essential preparation

Before your interview, it is essential that you have:

  • read all the information on this page and made note of the items you need to bring with you to the interview and any questions that you may want to ask.
  • familiarised yourself with the NHS core values.
  • completed the online Non-Disclosure Agreement formPlease note that you will be unable to proceed with your interview unless this has been completed and submitted to us. Disclosing information to others relating to the content of the interview and its assessment materials (e.g. subject material and topics discussed) is unacceptable. Any form of disclosure potentially puts some applicants at an unfair advantage. Therefore, we ask that you do not share interview questions with colleagues and other prospective applicants. Anyone found to have revealed interview questions to others, including through social media, will have any offer of a place withdrawn, or lead to your exclusion after the Programme has commenced.

Interview format

Interviews will take the format of Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs). The interview itself is a formal but friendly process. We appreciate that some candidates will be nervous, so we try to ensure that interviews are conducted in as relaxed an environment as possible.

There will be a total of four stations, with two areas/scenarios to discuss in each station.

Typically, you will have a total of three minutes to read the presented scenarios or questions immediately before each MMI station. The station at which you start will be selected at random. Typically, in each station you will have 11 minutes to discuss the two areas/scenarios. You will then rotate to the next station in the sequence with a one-minute gap. As such, each station will typically take 15 minutes. The total interview time is approximately one hour.

At the end of each station the interviewer(s) will assess your performance and allocate you a score. The interviewers will not be aware of scores from the other stations. Scores will be collected at the end of the day and reviewed once all interviews have been concluded. Participants will be ranked according to their performance across all stations.
