Haroon Khan, 44, from Liverpool achieved a distinction in the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (Further Education) delivered through Edge Hill University partner, Wirral Metropolitan College.
For Haroon completing the qualification marks a significant milestone in his career and is one of his proudest achievements.
As an in-service trainee employed at Liverpool Adult Learning Service, Haroon chose to study this degree to develop his teaching practice and continue his professional growth.

Haroon said: ” I chose to study the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching at Wirral Metropolitan College, which is delivered in partnership with Edge Hill University, because of Edge Hill’s excellent reputation for teacher training and its focus on developing reflective practitioners.
“Although I was already a teacher in Further Education, this course helped me reflect on my practice, improve my teaching and grow both personally and professionally.”
Alongside his studies, Haroon balanced a full-time teaching role and family life as a father of four.
As a ESOL, Business & Administration and Interpreting teacher, he is passionate about supporting learners from diverse backgrounds. Drawing on his own experience of moving with his family from Pakistan to Liverpool, he provides pastoral support to learners, helping them navigate challenges such as visa processes and settling into life in the UK.
Haroon added: “Achieving a distinction is one of my proudest achievements. Balancing full-time study alongside full-time teaching was incredibly challenging, but the support and positive learning environment helped me succeed.
“The course gave me the confidence to keep learning and inspired me to continue my studies with the goal of completing a PhD in the future.”
Programme leader, Ailz McHale Bailey praised Haroon for his commitment to both his students and his own professional development.
She said: “Haroon consistently exceeds expectations in the quality of teaching and learning he delivers, ensuring his learners gain the knowledge and language skills they need not only to function, but to thrive in UK society.
“He also excelled in his own assignment submissions for the course and has been a fantastic student who was a pleasure to teach and support.”
Haroon credits his success to the encouragement he received from fellow students, University staff and colleagues at Liverpool Adult Learning Services.
He said: “I am grateful to everyone involved in the course and to my mentor and managers at my work placement for believing in me and supporting me every step of the way. I could not have achieved this without them, and I will always be thankful.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all my lecturers and teachers. Their knowledge, encouragement, patience and constant support made a huge difference throughout my journey.”
