William Mitten

BSc (Hons) Business & Management with Logistics and Supply

Headshot of WIlliam Mitten

Deciding to complete a placement in my final year greatly aided my studies with first-hand practical experience. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to learn more about Port/Ship Agency; without this placement, I wouldn’t have gained invaluable industry knowledge.

Exploring my chosen field
Denholm Logistics Group brings together specialist knowledge to cover all aspect of global and domestic logistics, including a range of port and maritime service: Transport, Warehousing, Freight Forwarding, Ports Agency & Ship Chartering activities.

William worked as a Logistics Assistant with Denholm Logistics in his final year of studies and experience a varied placement role, including booking containers for arrival in UK, transport planning and business development.

During his placement, William enjoyed liaising with border force to support crew members from different vessels, welcoming the vessels into the ports, delivering packages of ship spares and products to the vessels when in port, and meeting new people on board the ships.

William stated that ‘moments of spontaneity’ made the placement special, such as meeting a captain who wanted to gift flower bouquets to members of his crew – William spent the afternoon in Liverpool on a mission to help with finding the perfect flowers, which made the crew feel happy and valued.

On successful completion of his placement, William secured the role of ‘Ship’s Agent’ in Port Services with Denholm Logistics Group

“William joined Denholm Logistics Group on placement in each of the Logistics department activities, Post Agency, Freight Forwarding, Distribution and Warehousing. He was outstanding in all departments, using academic and interpersonal skills to become a valuable contributor to the business. William was so impressive that his placement in Port Agency was extended.”
