Myles Tarry

After having conversations with the tutors at Wirral Met, I knew that they were passionate about that I could learn a lot from them. I live in Aigburth in Liverpool, and I was impressed with everything that was on offer when I visited the campus.

My lecturers have inspired and helped me grow as a person. During any stressful or anxious times I have felt confident to talk to them about anything that is on my mind. I feel like I have really progressed as a learner and with my self confidence. Teaching felt natural early on for me and I am glad I took the decision to do this course. I would advise anyone considering this course to do it! When on the course take your time, ask questions and be curious.

I have benefitted from the flexibility that this course offers. The split between college time and placement time has allowed me to stay on top of coursework, reading and learning. This course has allowed me to build a large knowledge base and learn much more then I thought I would outside of just classroom teaching. I have learned how to do things outside the classroom and in other sections of education, including the business side, exams and finances.

My subject knowledge has improved massively. Previously I was fairly confident in teaching, but I now have a better understanding of the background knowledge and the theory. Now, whenever I plan my lessons and adapt it to the needs of my students I consider different theories about how students will be learning what I need to teach and how I will adapt depending on the students.

I have taken advantage of the careers team for advice on roles that I could apply for. The tutors have always been their to answer any questions which I have had. Following my placement I have been offered numerous job roles and have been able to choose the one which best suits me. I have already achieved what I hoped by getting a job relating to my subject however I hope to increase my knowledge through CPDs and other learning opportunities.
