MA Creative Writing

My postgraduate degree helped me with my confidence and I am currently writing a novel, which I will be looking to be published.

“I wanted to study at a postgraduate level as I had a passion for Creative Writing and wanted to eventually publish a novel, so I thought a Master’s would give me the ability to do that. I chose Edge Hill as I did my undergraduate degree here, and I loved it so much. My favourite place to study was the Catalyst, and to socialise was Ormskirk – particularly Nordico Lounge.

I found that the progression from undergraduate to postgraduate studies was made much easier with the help of personal tutors on the course who I could chat to and ask for any help. The course content wasn’t harder, we just had more work to do, including a dissertation.

My favourite thing about the course is that we were able to pick an area of writing we were most passionate about (poetry, short stories, scriptwriting or a novel) and tailor our degree to that area. It gave me fabulous opportunities such as speaking to authors, attending talks in London and also being taught by creative writers.

My top tip is to attend a Postgraduate Open Evening and ask as many questions as you possibly can. During the application process, make sure to convey your passion for the course. I contacted the Careers Team about my application, and they helped to tailor and edit my personal statement.

I now work in Student Recruitment at Edge Hill University as an Education Liaison Assistant and my postgraduate degree helped a lot. I constantly use it when writing creative materials at work, but also with simple things like grammar, spelling and punctuation too. It helped me with my confidence and I am currently writing a novel, which I will be looking to be published.”
