Biography

Michelle is currently working as a Lecturer for the Educational Mental Health Practitioners Post Graduate Course and Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH) Course for the Faculty of Health, Social Work and Wellbeing.

Michelle is a children and young people’s therapist who specialises in early evidenced-based psychological treatment. She has a First-Class BA Degree in Teaching and Learning alongside a Master’s Degree with BPS Accreditation in Psychology from the University of Chester. Michelle graduated from The University of Manchester in 2019 and is an active member of the BABCP involved with their special interest groups. She is currently working towards fellowship status at Edge Hill University.

Prior to her role at Edge Hill University, Michelle worked for East Lancashire Child and Adolescent Services as part of the Mental Health in School’s Team. She has also worked with Blackpool CAMHS and had an honorary role with The Link Psychology Co-Operative. Michelle has also worked in education for over 10 years and was a curriculum co-ordinator before she moved into the clinical field.                                                           

Research Interests

As a result of these several influences and contexts of work, Michelle’s research work remains diverse, she has a passion for children and young people’s mental health and how that impacts on academic attainment. Michelle’s other interests include whole school approaches, collaborative working, measuring the impacts of early mental health interventions, creative approaches to deliver therapy to children and young people both in Education and Community contexts, and the use of positive psychology within delivery.

Teaching

At the Department of Applied Health and Social care, Michelle is a module lead on several modules. She teaches the foundations of child and adolescent mental health and wellbeing covering theory and skills. She also teaches assessment and engagement both for clinical and educational settings, and interventions for emerging mental health difficulties.
