Working with Debate Mate was an enriching experience; it allowed me to gain practical industry insight, improving my confidence and communication as I would deliver debate lessons to high school students. Overall, I enjoyed this placement and look forward to applying skills learnt in my future legal profession.
Developing my professional skill set
Debate Mate tackles educational disadvantage in Britain’s most deprived communities. Recruiting and training university students, Debate Mate support students with delivery of extra-curricular debate workshops in schools improving speaking and listening attainment and building confidence, teamwork, and leadership in children.
Mazvita engaged with Debate Mate’s programmes to address the widening skills gap between education and employment, whilst raising aspirations and helping students to make well-informed choices. She also received quality training in classroom management, debating and safeguarding during her placement with Debate Mate.
Since taking part in this placement for her Work Experience module, Mazvita has travelled with Debate Mate to London for industry site visits to Dolittle Technology and has enriched her CV for future internship applications or employment opportunities.
Mazvita delivered educational debating programmes for disadvantaged school children, gaining key skills and experience for interviews with prospective employers.
