Katy Barton
BA (Hons) Childhood & Youth Studies
I have had so many memorable moments on my course but the most memorable is meeting new people from all different walks of life
I wanted to pursue my degree as I knew it would help me reach the job I was inspired to do. My dream job is to work alongside UNICEF and my favourite boy band BTS have done a lot of work with them which inspired me. I love to support and care for other people, and I want to be the voice of those who need it.
I choose to study at Edge Hill because I just fell in love with the campus. When I attended my offer holder day, I could really see myself working and living here.
The top three skills I have developed during my degree are:
- Communication
- Confidence
- Teamwork
I have had so many memorable moments on my course but the most memorable is meeting new people from all different walks of life, they have truly helped to inspire me and help me grow as a person.
My favourite thing about my degree subject is that every day I’m learning something new. It has helped me understand the world on a deeper level and understand how not everyone will think or act the same. The staff help to push you and allow you the chance to research areas you are interested in.
My degree is really interesting, as you learn about things in a much deeper level than you would at collage or high school. We are all on our own journey and what matters the most is how we can support each other in it.
The staff are nothing but supportive no matter what, especially when you have circumstances that are out of your control. They are always available when you need them.
The best thing about the campus is the big open green spaces. I love to go running, especially if I’m stressed and if I just need to clear my head. I can go out and run on campus and not worry about busy streets.
My favourite place on campus would have to be my bedroom in halls. I like having somewhere to unwind after a long day, I especially like that it’s close to my classes and I don’t have to worry about rushing home
When I graduate, I would love to work with UNICEF in some kind of capacity. I’m not exactly sure what type of role but I’m leaning more towards a teaching role or an aid relief/ policy maker.
If you feel like this course will help you get to where you want to be, then go for it! When I was looking at starting university I looked into the course and the jobs it can lead to, and this helped make the decision easier.
