Biography

After graduating from Sheffield University with a BA (hons) degree in Creative Music Technology, Kate completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCert) Secondary in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Employment in secondary education was at management level and led on to her position as a Teacher Advisor employed by the Local Authority in a multi-million-pound City Learning Centre with specialism in performance, technology, and music. During this time, she provided courses for local communities and schools (reception to 18 years) as well as continual professional development for teachers, aiming to raise the use of new technologies to enhance learning. After relocating to Wigan from Barnsley, Kate had various positions in schools with management roles. These included primary liaison work, head of curriculum areas, assistant heads of year, Safeguarding, English as an Additional Language (EAL) coordinator before taking up Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) role. This led to the SENCo award being completed at Edge Hill University as well as the Masters (MA) in Education and the Post Graduate Certificate (PGCert) in Dyslexia. Kate is now the full-time Senior lecturer and course leader of the Dyslexia and Dyscalculia courses at Edge Hill.
