The most memorable moment of my degree so far is getting the opportunity to be a part of the first ever ACCA Advantage Mentorship programme. I got to have three 1-1 sessions, organised by the ACCA, with industry professionals.

I had a long journey to be on the course I am. I previously started studying medicine at a different university and after 2 years realised it wasn’t for me. So after dropping out and taking a gap year I decided to follow my love for maths. I decided on accounting because it felt more practical maths to me rather than theoretical. Swapping courses was one of the best things I ever did because I’m now on a course which I thoroughly enjoy.

Edge Hill has always seemed very welcoming and personable to me. The campus is beautiful which is an added extra. My favourite place is the library. It is a great place to study and be with friends and it has a great coffee shop which makes it even better!

The lecturers genuinely want each person to succeed and the support just appeared to be on another level. All academic and pastoral aspects make Edge Hill a place for me to grow and learn in my best way.

I have definitely developed my critical thinking, organisational and IT skills. My degree really encourages me to think in different ways which enhances my analysis skills. I was also able to undertake advanced Excel and Sage qualifications in my first and second year. I think this has really set me up for future employment.

The most memorable moment of my degree so far is getting the opportunity to be a part of the first ever ACCA Advantage Mentorship programme. I got to have three 1-1 sessions, organised by the ACCA, with industry professionals. They gave advice and passed on invaluable knowledge. Being asked to take part in this scheme was an opportunity I am extremely grateful for.

My favourite part of my degree subject is definitely the financial accounting modules. I find them both interesting and intellectually challenging, which keeps me engaged and motivated. I really enjoy learning about how financial reports are structured and the processes companies follow to produce them. Understanding how businesses communicate their financial health and performance through these reports has given me a clearer insight into the corporate world. It’s rewarding to see how the theory connects with real-world practices, and it’s an area I can see myself working in after graduation.

For me, the best thing about Edge Hill University is the outstanding level of support available to students. I’ve consistently found the support to be exceptional, both academically and pastorally. Whether it’s help with coursework, understanding complex topics, or needing someone to talk to during difficult times, the staff are always approachable, friendly, and genuinely invested in your success. They really go above and beyond to make sure you feel supported and valued throughout your time here. Knowing that there’s always someone willing to listen or lend a hand has made a huge difference in my overall university experience. Academically, the lecturers have always been approachable and willing to offer extra guidance whenever I’ve needed it. On a pastoral level, the university has been just as supportive. From wellbeing services to personal tutors checking in regularly, I’ve always felt like there was someone to turn to if I was struggling or needed advice. Their encouragement and understanding have made a huge difference, especially during stressful periods like assignment deadlines or exams.

When I graduate I would like to have a career in auditing and become a chartered accountant. I would advise anyone studying this course at Edge Hill to make use of the opportunities that are available. There are a lot that are presented to you and if you make the most of them you can really advance and learn a lot.
