I’ve learned not to be afraid of trying things at Edge Hill. I’ve really grown in confidence. I feel like I can do anything now.

I performed in a local production of Mary Poppins as a child. I knew then that was what I wanted to do as a career. I had no idea I could study musical theatre at university.

Studying the academic side of musical theatre has really opened my eyes. I’ve discovered the history and theory, but also new areas of theatre, and the different career paths I hadn’t known about before.

I was chosen to perform as part of an international Arts in Healthcare conference in New York. I’d never considered areas like theatre therapy or psychology before – it really made me think. The best thing about studying at Edge Hill is the amazing opportunities you get to broaden your learning or try something different or new.

I got to see a Broadway show, something I’ve always wanted to do. The night before I went, I just lay in bed thinking, “how is this happening?”

Before Edge Hill, I hadn’t even had a sleepover at a friend’s house. I didn’t want to be away from home. I honestly thought I’d be going home every weekend, but I haven’t felt like that at all.

I’ve learned not to be afraid of trying things at Edge Hill. I’ve really grown in confidence. Getting involved in student life and taking every opportunity open to me has helped me understand myself better.

I feel like I can do anything now. When I first applied to university, I thought I’d just be studying my subject. I had no idea it would be so much more than that.
