BSc (Hons) Psychology

The lecturers don’t just teach, they tell a story, and that’s really helped me reflect on where I want to take my degree in the future.
The more I explored the study of the mind and behaviour, the more I realised it was something I wanted to pursue on a deeper level. I previously worked in a career focused on helping companies understand what drives consumer behaviour. Over the years, I found myself increasingly drawn to the psychological concepts behind my work, eventually inspiring me to take my career and studies in a completely new direction.
Edge Hill immediately stood out to me, especially during my open day visit. The campus had such a welcoming feel, and I was struck by how beautiful and well-kept the surroundings were. The modern facilities, combined with the green open spaces, made it feel like the perfect environment for learning and personal growth.
I’ve developed my self-reflection and critical thinking. I’ve learned how to evaluate my experiences through the lens of psychological theory.
The degree has also enhanced my resilience. The course has pushed me to bounce back from setbacks more quickly and manage emotional challenges more effectively.
I’ve also enhanced my communication skills. I’ve become much better at working with others, even when it’s difficult, and at understanding different perspectives.
Getting my first exam result back was such a standout moment. It was the first time in years I’d properly revised for something. Seeing my hard work pay off with a near-perfect score was incredibly rewarding
The Applied Psychology and Psychology of Wellbeing modules have been real highlights for me. The lecturers don’t just teach, they tell a story, and that’s really helped me reflect on where I want to take my degree in the future.
I love how modern the campus is while still blending beautifully into the landscape. There are so many places where I can settle in and get work done when I need to. The staff in the Catalyst are especially helpful and friendly – which makes such a difference, especially when you’re finding your feet as a first-year student.
My favourite places on campus are the Catalyst and the Hub. The Catalyst is quiet and calm, with loads of breakout areas that are perfect for studying or meeting up for group projects. The Hub, on the other hand, is always buzzing, there’s always something going on so it’s a great spot to head to if you’ve got time to spare between lectures
I’m hoping to stay on and complete my Masters at Edge Hill. I’m aiming for a high-level career, so further qualifications will be essential—and it would be great to continue my journey here.
Be prepared to learn. This would be my advice to anyone considering psychology at Edge Hill. It sounds simple, but it really comes down to your attitude in lectures. Whether you leave understanding the content depends on how focused and engaged you are. Lecture time isn’t just about showing up—it’s about being present and wanting to take it all in.
Edge Hill supported me even before I was accepted onto my course. One of the reasons I hesitated about going to university was because of my dyslexia and struggles with maths. Edge Hill supported me to complete and pass the Maths equivalency test, which was a huge relief. It was great to see that I wasn’t held back by GCSE results from years ago, and that I was provided the opportunity to prove myself. In addition to this, the SpLD team were able to assess me very quickly at the start of my first year and I’m now given more time in exams to compensate for my dyslexia.
