Diversity Student Success programme

I would wholeheartedly recommend the programme to any minority ethnic student looking to grow, connect, and lead with purpose.

What did you think about the Diversity Student Success programme?

Being on the programme was an incredible and empowering experience that had a lasting impact on me as a student from a minority ethnic background. From the very beginning, the programme created a welcoming and inclusive environment where I felt seen, heard, and valued for who I am. It was refreshing and inspiring to be surrounded by a diverse group of students who shared similar experiences, challenges, and aspirations. The programme not only acknowledged the unique struggles that come with being part of an underrepresented community but also celebrated our cultural identities and the strength we bring to the table.

What was the impact of the programme for you?

Through a combination of interactive workshops, group discussions, personal reflections, and mentorship, I developed a deeper understanding of myself and my leadership potential. I learned how to harness my personal experiences as a source of strength and resilience, and how to lead with authenticity and purpose.

We encouraged each other, shared resources, and held space for vulnerability and growth. The programme didn’t just equip me with practical leadership skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving; it also gave me a sense of belonging and the confidence to take up space in rooms where I may have once felt out of place.

What was your favourite part of the programme?

One of the most powerful parts of the programme was hearing from guest speakers and facilitators who looked like me and had walked similar paths. Their stories of overcoming obstacles and making meaningful change were incredibly motivating and reminded me that I too have the power to create impact. The programme also emphasised the importance of community, collaboration, and lifting others as we rise. I built strong, supportive relationships with my peers—connections that went beyond the sessions and have continued to grow.

What did you gain from taking part?

I came out of it with a clearer vision for my future and a renewed belief in my ability to lead and make a difference—not just in my own life, but in the lives of others. Being a part of this programme was not just about leadership in a traditional sense; it was about redefining what leadership looks like and recognising that our stories, our voices, and our perspectives matter. It was truly a transformative journey that I will carry with me, and I would wholeheartedly recommend the programme to any minority ethnicity student looking to grow, connect, and lead with purpose.
