Profile

Biography

I am a Chilean igneous petrologist and volcanologist with interests in geochemistry and thermodynamics of magmas. I studied Geology and did my M.Sc. in Geosciences at the University of Chile and then I worked for almost a decade as a staff geologist in the Chilean Geological Survey (SERNAGEOMIN). I did my PhD in the School of Earth and the Environment at the University of Leeds studying the petrogenesis of Stromboli volcano. I moved to the USA as a lecturer in the Geology Department at the University at Buffalo. I returned to the UK in 2013 as a visiting fellow in the School of Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh and Lecturer in Geology at Newcastle University. Currently, I am a Senior Lecturer in Geology in the School of Geography and Geology at Edge Hill University.

Research Interests

I have broad interests across igneous petrology and geochemistry. My research, however, principally focuses on the petrology and geochemistry of volcanic rocks. I study the thermodynamics of magma mixing, the evolution of magma geochemistry, using combined analytic, theoretical and geostatistical tools.
