Biography
Teaching:
Ian is a teacher educator. He teaches primary science, geography (subject leader) on undergraduate and postgraduate primary ITE courses. Ian is a Link Tutor for both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees on professional practice.
History:
Before entering the teaching profession, Ian completed a BSc (Hons) degree in geography at The University of Liverpool. He then went on to study for a PhD in physical geography. After completing a period of postdoctoral research, Ian completed a PGCE before going on to work in a variety of roles in primary schools including as a subject leader, year leader and phase leader. His geography background fuelled his enthusiasm for learning about and developing high-quality geography learning opportunities for children. He became responsible for mentoring and leading CPD opportunities for other staff in school.
Research Interests
Ian is interested in curriculum and assessment in the foundation subjects, particularly primary geography, and is currently collaborating with other colleagues at EHU to write a book chapter related to this area. Ian is also interested in how pre-service teachers use models and analogies in their teaching of primary geography and is currently conducting research in this area.
