My favourite thing about my degree subject has got to be how practical the seminars are. We are given opportunities to practice and execute what we've learned, along with support from lecturers. The department also hosts extracurricular activities, such as the Cyber and Research Club.

I was inspired to study Computing because of my interest in technology, how it works and how it can be used to solve real-world problems. I chose to study at Edge Hill because of its strong reputation for student support and development, the quality and variety of courses and opportunities available, and its high-quality teaching and facilities.

One of the most memorable moments of my degree so far has been completing a practical project with a team of other students. Here, we worked together to build an inventory system from scratch, designing, coding, testing, and presenting the finished product. Seeing everything come together was incredibly rewarding and boosted my confidence in teamwork. The project was even published in a department newsletter. During my degree at Edge Hill, I’ve developed several key skills, but my top three are problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience.

The best thing about Edge Hill University for me is the supportive learning environment and the strong sense of community. The lecturers are very approachable and do their best to help you throughout your studies. There are also additional support services you can reach out to for help, whether it be uni-skills, health and wellbeing, or careers.

My favourite place on campus at Edge Hill University is the Catalyst. It’s a great place for both studying and relaxing. There are different levels you can work on, some are suited to more social study and group work, whilst there are also quieter areas for independent study. There’s also a coffee shop, lots of available computers, private study spaces, and being the home of the student support teams. What could be better?

When I graduate from Edge Hill University, I hope to begin a career in the computing industry, applying the technical skills I’ve developed to real-world problems and scenarios. In particular, I would like to work and develop in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

My advice to anyone considering studying Computing at Edge Hill University would be to come in with an open mind and be ready to get involved. Take advantage of every opportunity given and, importantly, reach out for support if you need it – there’s always someone to help.

Edge Hill University has been incredibly supportive throughout my degree. The staff are always approachable and willing to offer guidance. There are many resources and workshops within the department and in the Catalyst that I have been able to access, which have supported me throughout my studies.
