BA (Hons) Secondary Religious Education with QTS

Secondary Religious Education with QTS student, Claire McFadden

The place, the people and the support is unmatched. I am proud to say I attend Edge Hill University.

Religion has always been a topic I was passionate about and education is a course I knew I wanted to do from a young age. The student profiles from last year really pushed me to apply as they spoke so passionately about the course.

I chose Edge Hill because the grounds were beautiful, and the accommodation was great too. I travelled/moved from Ireland, so I spent a lot of time researching a lot of accommodation and facilities and Edge Hill really stole my heart. It made it all worthwhile.

I honestly believe the trips we take to visit different places of worship have been amazing. The places are so beautiful and the people we met are so kind and open to helping educate us.

I love how open and opinionated the classes have been. There’s a lot of room for real discussions surrounding real world issues.

The lectures and educators are one of the best things about Edge Hill. I don’t think my experience would have been the same if I didn’t have some of the kindest and funniest members of the department guiding us.

My favourite place on campus is definitely The Hub, it’s got all my favourite things in one place. Food, coffee and a lot of people. It’s a perfect spot to destress and people watch with friends. This is where a lot of events and other activities take place which is always a lot of fun. I particularly like the small businesses that have stands in the hub throughout the week.

My goal for once I graduate is to take the knowledge my course has equipped me with and share this with the young people I will be educating and ensuring I can encourage them in the ways I have been encouraged.

For anyone considering studying at Edge Hill, Do it! I know more than anyone that moving to university can be hard, distance especially was a huge factor for me. I honestly have never felt so content and happy with a choice I have made.

Other than the amazing staff, the university has also supported me through the Student Support Fund. I struggled to get a job however I was able to speak with the financial support team and get extra funding which took a lot of stress off my shoulders and allowed me to put my time into my education.

The place, the people and the support is unmatched. I am proud to say I attend Edge Hill University. I like to think I can help with both students who travel such a long distance as well as mature students who return to education when I say this can be such a daunting and lonely experience. I promise the doubts outweigh the positives when it’s just a thought in your head before you get here. My most reoccurring thought since I got here has been “I can’t believe I doubted this” because my experience has been nothing short of amazing.
