Chloe Moran
Public Law and Human Rights Solicitor
LLB (Hons) Law
I would encourage students to build relationships with tutors, make the most of work experience opportunities and network with visiting professionals. Many of the contacts I made in first year are still part of my professional network today.
Chloe left school at 17 without A-Levels, but her ambition to pursue a career in law never faded. After several years working in bars and restaurants, she visited her childhood best friend at Edge Hill University and immediately fell in love with the campus. That evening she searched online for ways to study at Edge Hill without traditional qualifications and discovered the Fastrack programme. Chloe applied on the spot, earned her place, and went on to study Law via Fastrack followed by the LLB (Hons) Law degree.
Chloe said: “Edge Hill stood out for its supportive and personal learning environment. Unlike many universities where students rarely meet lecturers one-to-one, I valued being able to drop into staff offices for a cup of tea and guidance.”
Chloe continued: “The amount of support and opportunities provided is really second to none.”
Despite studying during the COVID-19 pandemic, Chloe benefited from many professional opportunities, signposted by tutors and the Law Society. Chloe said: “The Lawyers’ Skills module provided a great baseline for learning and building practical legal knowledge, from drafting documents to conducting client interviews.”
The Careers team also played an important role supporting Chloe through her first CV, reviewing her training contract application, and arranging a mock interview that boosted her confidence.
Chloe made the most of her time at Edge Hill, in roles and activities that helped with professional skills:
- Vice President of Events for the Law Society, where she organised large-scale events, including a ball for nearly 200 students, a challenge that taught her to thrive under pressure.
- Mooting and negotiation competitions, which strengthened her advocacy skills and confidence.
- Student Governor, representing student voices on key decisions at Board level, an experience she still draws on today as a solicitor advocating for clients’ rights and interests.
For Chloe, the best part of university was the staff, she said: “They’re always on hand to guide you with teaching, opportunities, and real-life experience of the profession.”
Chloe’s advice for current students: “I would encourage students to build relationships with tutors, make the most of work experience opportunities and network with visiting professionals. Many of the contacts I made in first year are still part of my professional network today.”
Chloe is now a solicitor in the Public Law and Human Rights Team at Irwin Mitchell. Her work focuses on cases in the Court of Protection, where decisions are made for individuals who lack capacity to make them independently. She has a particular interest in Serious Medical Treatment cases and also brings Judicial Review claims against public bodies.
Chloe secured her training contract while still in her second year at Edge Hill, an achievement she attributes to the support, opportunities, and encouragement she received during her studies.
Chloe’s advice for future students: “I encourage prospective law students to think beyond the most traditional or Russell Group universities.
“Consider where you will receive the most support and employability opportunities.”
Chloe revisited Edge Hill in November 2025 as a guest speaker at the annual Law Alumni Panel event. Chloe attended alongside four other alumni from the School of Law and Criminal Justice, showcasing the diverse and successful career paths pursued by Edge Hill alumni.
