Profile
Biography
Prior to joining Edge Hill as a Lecturer in Primary Education, Alex taught across the primary age range as a class teacher in EYFS, KS1 and KS2. She was subject lead for mathematics and science. Her Senior Leadership responsibilities included leading EYFS and overseeing the opening of a pre-school setting on the school site.
Alex delivered mathematics training to NQTs in St Helens and has worked in a supportive coaching role with mathematics subject leaders and seinor leaders across the North West in her role with Maths Hub NW3. She was part of the writing and delivery of an early years focused mathematics CPD programme for teachers and teaching assistants. She delivered mathematics training for Primary School Direct students with St Helens Teaching School Alliance.
Alex is an experienced school governor.
Research Interests
Alex is passionate about breaking down barriers to learning with a specific focus on developing secure mathematical foundations.
Alex’s research focuses on development of early number and number sense.
Teaching
Alex teaches across all programmes spanning Level 4 – Level 7 at Edge Hill including the BA (Hons) Primary Education and Primary PGCE programmes. Alex’s teaching incorporates primary mathematics, SSP and classroom practice. She teaches modules focused on EYFS wthin the Primary Dept.
Alex is also module leader for various modules on the BA (Hons) Primary Education programme.
