Edge Hill University sets the standards for learning resources

July 28, 2025

Following the recent announcement of remarkable scores in the National Student Survey (NSS), Edge Hill University has strengthened its position as the North West’s number one university for learning resources.

Following the recent announcement of remarkable scores in the National Student Survey (NSS), Edge Hill University has strengthened its position as the North West’s number one university for learning resources, and claimed the number two spot nationwide, second only to a leading global Russell Group institution.

At the heart of this success is the Catalyst – an innovative multi-million-pound learning and support hub, and the home of the University library.  It has become the University’s beating heart and the physical embodiment of its vision for a holistic, digital-first student experience.

Since opening its doors in 2018, Catalyst has revolutionised the way students access education, support, and career development at Edge Hill, setting a new benchmark for modern university campuses.

The Catalyst was founded on the principle of inclusivity and efficiency, eliminating unnecessary referrals and ensuring every student query can be answered via a single frontline enquiry point. By co-locating library services, student support, and careers advice under one welcoming, contemporary roof, Edge Hill has removed barriers and created ongoing opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

Ten academic areas scored over 95% for satisfaction in learning resources, with Edge Hill overall achieving an impressive 4.8% above the sector average. The University’s commitment to a digital-first approach is clear and modern, and mobile-friendly systems enhance self-service, while extensive online and on campus resources deliver a seamless experience tailored to individual student needs.

Edge Hill’s digital first approach does not come at the expense of real-world interaction.

At key times of the academic year, student use of digital learning resources within the Catalyst, has outpaced off-campus access, demonstrating the enduring value of a shared, technologically advanced physical space in fostering innovation, collaboration and success.

Maria Mirza, Director of Library and Learning Resources, said: “We are absolutely delighted by the outstanding score for learning resources in this year’s National Student Survey. This exceptional feedback is testament to the commitment and investment the University continues to make to provide an environment (both physical and digital) that empowers every student to excel in their academic journey and beyond.

“We are incredibly proud to see the efforts of all our support teams and services translate into such a positive impact for students.”

Every aspect of the Catalyst experience – from its 24/7 opening to dynamic, flexible learning spaces and the expertise of staff from library, support, and careers teams – is shaped around what matters most to students.

The success of this integrated model is reflected in consistently high satisfaction rates across six years of NSS results.

As student needs and expectations evolve, Edge Hill University continues to lead the way with a forward-thinking, agile approach – making it an inspiring destination for those who are ready to take the next step in their learning journey.
