Professor Young has fully immersed himself in Edge Hill life during his first week, visiting teams across the University and speaking to student and staff to gain insights into existing projects, partnerships and innovations, and identifying future opportunities.
With a strong track record in academic leadership and a clear vision for the future, Professor Young joins Edge Hill at a pivotal and exciting time for the University.
Professor Young said: “I am honoured and delighted to join Edge Hill as the new Vice-Chancellor. I look forward to working with our dedicated staff and students to build on our proud legacy, and to create an ever more impactful future together.
“True to the spirit of our motto, ‘In Scientia Opportunitas’, ‘in knowledge there is opportunity’, we will continue to offer inclusive, transformative education – that shapes agile and career-confident graduates – and promote a thriving culture of research and innovation that drives creativity and economic growth in the North West and beyond.”
Professor Young joins Edge Hill from his previous position as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sunderland, with responsibility for the University’s academic portfolio, teaching and learning, educational partnerships and research.
He delivered ambitious strategies for student success, digital learning and graduate prospects, and led a major expansion of the portfolio, establishing the University’s medical school, online programmes and degree apprenticeships.
Prior to Sunderland, Professor Young was formerly Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) at De Montfort University, and Pro-Warden (Students and Learning Development) and Head of Music at Goldsmiths, University of London.
