New accessibility guides to help staff, students and visitors feel more at home

June 2, 2025

Edge Hill University has partnered with AccessAble to launch a set of guides to help students, staff and visitors navigate the Ormskirk campus more confidently.

There are now over 300 Edge Hill detailed access guides on the advocacy organisation’s website, offering accurate, up-to-date information on access to buildings, teaching spaces, libraries, sports facilities and accommodation, and routes across the campus.

Designed to support a wide range of access needs, the guides were created through a thorough assessment and are designed to assist people with a wide range of access needs.

Adrian McGillion, Director of Facilities Management at Edge Hill, said: “We believe an outstanding campus environment is one where everyone feels welcome, valued and empowered to access all that university life has to offer.

“These new AccessAble guides are a vital step forward in ensuring our spaces are inclusive and welcoming by design, supporting students, staff and visitors to navigate our campus with confidence.

“As highlighted by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, true accessibility means placing the needs of all users at the heart of our thinking, and that’s exactly what these guides help us achieve.”

Each guide offers comprehensive information and photographs covering everything from parking facilities and hearing loops, to walking distances and accessible toilets.

Dr Gregory Burke, Founder and Executive Chair of AccessAble, said: “Edge Hill University has worked closely with us to ensure that comprehensive, accurate accessibility information for the campus is readily available. This is vital for disabled students, staff and visitors and ultimately benefits the entire university community.

“The collaboration is part of our continued efforts to remove barriers within higher education and to support a more inclusive and equitable experience for all.”
