We are upgrading all student-facing computers across campus to Windows 11, with the rollout due to be completed by the end of August 2025.
What’s changing?
Windows 11 builds on the solid foundation of Windows 10, offering a familiar user experience with a fresh look and a host of performance and usability improvements.
OneDrive Sync for Your Files
As part of the upgrade, some of your key folders will now automatically redirect and sync to OneDrive. This means your files are backed up securely and are accessible from any Windows 11 University desktop, or even from home using OneDrive web access.
The following folders will sync automatically to OneDrive:
- Desktop
- Documents
- Favourites
- Music
- Pictures
- Videos
Once the upgrade is complete, these folders will live in your OneDrive account, making it easier than ever to access your work wherever you are.
Why This Matters
- Access from anywhere – Log in to any device and pick up where you left off.
- Improved performance – A smoother and more modern experience
Tip:
If a file is missing, check both OneDrive folders and the Z: drive, especially if you’ve switched between Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices.

What does this mean for you?
You will soon use the Company Portal to find and install approved software and other resources, just like you currently do with the Software Centre.
Key Information

When is this happening?
You’ll find the Company Portal is already on all devices however after all devices have been upgraded to Windows 11, the Company Portal will become the primary source for installing software, replacing the Software Centre.
Where to find the Company Portal?
You can find the Company Portal in the same location as the Software Centre (e.g., Start Menu) It will likely have a different icon.
Benefits of the Company Portal
The Company Portal offers several improvements over the Software Centre, including:
