July 24, 2023

Edge Hill University and Holy Cross College have strengthened their lifelong learning offer by introducing an MA Education Special Education Needs (SEN) pathway delivered at the college.

The course is the latest addition to a portfolio of programmes at Holy Cross College opening up opportunities for the community in Bury and the surrounding area to pursue a career in Education.

The courses available include undergraduate degree courses, PGCEs, and now, a Masters programme. All these courses are validated and delivered by Edge Hill University and are influenced by the University’s sector leading academic research.

Dr Helen O’Keeffe, Associate Dean of Edge Hill’s Faculty of Education, said: “Edge Hill is one of the largest providers of teacher training in the country and is at the forefront of developing the next generation of professionals in the sector.

“We are delighted to be growing our partnership with Holy Cross College again. This new programme allows current teachers to enhance their specialist knowledge and skills in the area of Special Educational Needs or provides a lifelong learning opportunity for anyone interested in education. With the UK facing a shortage of teachers, community-based teacher development like this is crucial in reversing the trend and developing the educators of the future.”

The partnership between Edge Hill University and Holy Cross College is a longstanding one and reflects their shared vision and values of enhancing life chances and equal opportunities for all.

The Principal of Holy Cross College added: “I am delighted that we can now offer a continuation of the excellent standards of lecturing and individually tailored support through to Masters level, allowing our students access to the leading academic minds and research in Education at Edge Hill University.”
