Two Edge Hill students have landed jobs in their dream professions in the media industry.

Becca Martlow and Niamh Hastings, who are graduating from the University after studying degrees in the creative arts, have already secured work in their chosen field thanks to the experience and support they gained at Edge Hill.

Becca, who is graduating with a BA (Hons) TV Production Management, credited her course’s industry links with helping her build a career in the industry.

The 21-year-old from Crosby said:

“My studies at Edge Hill set me up to enter the industry because of the strong alumni connections and guidance from our lecturers.”

Her first job as a logger for BBC Three show Freeze was secured during Becca’s second year after using a Facebook group for current and past TV production management students.

Links with another recent Edge Hill graduate helped Becca secure her current role as a production secretary with Blast! Films in London.

“My job is everything I dreamt it would be,” she added. “It’s different every day and there are always new challenges coming my way.

“My course definitely taught me a lot about the television industry. Not only did I learn production managements skills but I also developed transferable skills like confidence.

“The biggest skill I learnt was delegation. TV is always a lot of work but if you pull together as a team, things go well.”

Becca is currently working on a programme being produced for Sky Documentaries, as well as a recurring production for Channel 4.

Niamh cried with excitement when she secured her first job with the BBC.

The 21-year-old from Southport has been working on Morning Live for BBC Studios as a production management assistant and studio runner.

She said: “I knew I’d worked hard, especially during my final year, but I’ve always doubted myself a bit. It was a huge personal accomplishment when I secured my first ever job in the industry, especially considering it was with the BBC

“Working with lots of different people throughout my course gave me the confidence to apply for jobs and make contacts with people working in the industry.

“The facilities at Edge Hill were amazing, and for me, the opportunity to learn how to use state-of-the-art equipment in the TV studio made a huge impact.

“It allowed me to be creative and learn new things.”
